Explore with Safari 1.0
Todd Dominey reminds us that today, Apple released the final, 1.0 build of Safari, its beautiful and feature-packed Web browser. Thank you, Apple, for keeping it free, unlike the monopolistic Microsoft.

then again, apple are pretty proprietary when it comes to the hardware you need to run their os on…so i don’t really see much of a difference to the software monopoly of MS. remember a few years back when apple stopped all the “clone” manufacturers ? if they hadn’t, we’d have millions of different macs around, and prices would be perceptibly lower…
ah well, nice one nevertheless

MS charges for IE? I wasn’t aware of that. That said, looks like it’s no longer an MS browser that captures the “best browser for mac” award. All the better for folk on Mac’s!

No, MS does not charge for IE…yet. IE 6 is the last version that will be released for public download. From now on, the only way to get an updated version of the browser is to buy the new OS, the next one being Longhorn.
