USA’s Independence Day

I almost titled this entry “America’s Independence Day,” but then I realized that I was being very ignorant by referring to the United States of America as “America.” There are two Americas, South and North, and the United States is simply a country in one of those Americas, not an America in and of itself.
Therefore, I will not finish by saying “happy fourth of July, my fellow Americans,” but, instead, happy fourth of July, my fellow United Statesmen [and Stateswomen]!
[Amended to clearly acknowledge the women of the USA, although the previous phrasing was not meant to exclude them. Cheers!]

Geez Adam, ‘fellow statesmen’? What about all the women, we do make up more than 50% of the population.

Believe it or not, before American became the incorrect norm for folks in USA (my South American friends are americans too), there used to be ‘United Statesian.’ It is not in use anymore.
Although awkward, it is appropriate don’t u think?!
