Apple, You’re Killing Me!

First you boost the storage capacities of your iPods and keep them at the same price, just weeks after I purchased one for myself, and now you release new G4 PowerBooks and drop the price! My 17-inch PowerBook cost me $3000, with the educational discount, and now the base price of the improved PowerBook is only $2999. In the words of Cher, “if I could turn back time” I definitely would have waited the extra month and bought one now.

Oh well. I guess it’s all part of the vicious pricing cycle of technology. If you buy something early, you pay full price but have the satisfaction of using it before it’s too dated. If you buy something after prices drop, you save money, but a new version is usually just around the corner. In both cases, it’s a win-lose situation.

On a more optimistic note, Apple has released a wireless mouse and keyboard, both of which use Bluetooth wireless technology. Unfortunately, I already have Kensington’s PocketMouse Pro Wireless, which uses a USB reciever instead of Bluetooth, but perhaps I’ll upgrade next month to celebrate my birthday. Aren’t I nice?

Tell me about it! I bought an iPod and the day after it arrived they brought the new one out. No warning!

If you upgrade your mouse/keyboard can I have the old one?

They are getting on my nerves at the moment too because they have still not shipped my G5 even though I pre-ordered way back in June!
