Caught

I recently discovered Photo Friday, and how I didn’t stumble across it until now I’ll never know. It’s a weekly photo challenge in which hundreds of people participate, and I’m thinking of taking part every so often. Check out the Noteworthy Archive for the cream of the crop… you can really find some incredible photographs.

Your entries are great now, and perhaps the contest thing will make them even better.

Just a quick note: I am looking at your site in IE6 (Win) on my Dad’s computer, and the typography looks awful. It’s really tough to read some stuff here, especially the navigation. If need more specifics, feel free to ask.

Thanks, Stu! About the typography… my best guess is that your dad either is not using Windows XP, or if he is, he has ClearType shut off. There’s not a whole lot I can do to fix the problem. Some fonts simply don’t look great when not anti-aliased, and although some may say it’s not great to rely on modern browsers to anti-alias the text, it’s what I (and many others) do. Thanks for pointing that out!

Sure thing, Adam.

The thing is, we actually do have XP on that computer (home, I believe) — we just upgraded. Where’s ClearType in XP?

Right click on your desktop and go to Properties. Select the Appearance tab, and then click the “Effects…” button. The second radio button says “Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts.” Select ClearType from the dropdown menu and make sure that the radio box is checked. Let me know if it helps at all!
