Where the Creek Bends

The funny thing about the copycat at Wayward Puppy is that I think he emailed me a while back saying something like, “Great site! I’m going to use it as inspiration!” I responded, and then forgot about the whole thing. He was inspired alright, all the way down to his archives header and welcome text on the homepage.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?

Ben on Jan 3rd 05

his color scheme isn’t at all interesting

Rob Sable on Jan 3rd 05

I’ve always loved the look of your site. Not enough to copy it of course :)

Funniest part is that the site is licensed under Creative Commons which says “You may not alter, transform, or build upon this work.”

Marc James on Jan 3rd 05

Sheesh, some people are unbelievable. I hope that guy feels proud of himself. Sigh.

Check this out: http://www.xequte.com/fraud

And Adam: did you change AIM names? Please e-mail or IM me.

Bingo on Jan 3rd 05

He did give ya credit on his about page… more than most would do- it is not like he said he came up with it.
Did you e-mail him or just bitch about it on your website?

Bingo on Jan 3rd 05

Oh and his date archives are better, very creative, you shoudl copy those!

stijn on Jan 3rd 05

Nice picture. It has a very Tim Burton feel to it. You know Big Fish, Sleepy Holow, Edward Scissorhands…

Tobias Bergius on Jan 3rd 05

Haha. That’s sooo lame.
I love your site, but his is just ugly.

Brian Radford on Jan 3rd 05

I rather fee sorry for the guy. I mean really, the guy’s smart enough to know a great looking site when he sees one, but doesn’t have the ability to be more original in his design! Well at least he was honest enough to give you the credit for your design. that’s at least something. ;)

Adam Polselli on Jan 3rd 05

Thanks, stijn! I kinda thought so too. It also reminded me a bit of “The Ring.” I’ve got some even more “Ring”-ish photos on the way.

Bingo… I didn’t email him. Funny thing is, I’d feel bad asking him to take down what I’m sure he worked hard on. Also… me bitching would have been “OMG, look at this total creep. How could he? Ugh!” I wasn’t bitching.

Bingo on Jan 3rd 05

True, there are different levels =)
Its just that I had someone rip my stuff off before (didn’t even take my site tracker off!) so I was impressed that he gave you credit.
But I love your workand would be happy if every site on the internet used it!!!!

Patrick on Jan 3rd 05

It’s poor when someone does that.

Hafiz Muhtar on Jan 3rd 05

I really love this site and to be honest with you, my website’s design though not as beautiful as yours, was inspired by this site, but i hope there are no imitation to be considered as a copycat. I agree with Ben about the color scheme at that website. Maybe he should read your color section and ‘get the look’ article again… hehehe.. btw, the pic is spooky.. which is beautiful, in some way…

Uncle D on Jan 3rd 05

I wouldn’t even be worried. I looked at “his” photos and there sure are enough of him and thought, BORING!

Keep up the GOOD work!

Alistair on Jan 3rd 05

In my opinion, he has just butchered a fabulous design. You can tell you’ve taken care to implement your design Adam, he has just ripped it off and done a half arsed job of it too.

hmm i just clicked through to his site and hit a picture that wasn’t exactly “work safe” rather than the imitation site you’re talking about

maybe wanna delink that site huh?

PoorGuy on Jan 4th 05

Yes. The page redircts to an image that is JUST NOT SAFE FOR WORK. I nearly got caught at work. Jesus… Save me…

Colleen on Jan 4th 05

I think I just lost my breakfast. I clicked on the link as well and got a nice picture of some guy giving another guy ‘oral pleasure’. For a split second it did go to the website that you were talking about but then immediately redirected to the picture. I wonder if this guy figured out people were clicking on his link from you website to see how similar it was and decided to give all of us a nice surprise. Uck!

Adam Polselli on Jan 4th 05

Aw, thanks Uncle D!

Sorry to anyone that clicked through to the link. The chump over at Wayward Puppy was redirecting the link from my site. Anyways, I’ve changed my link to go to his homepage now, so you won’t be redirected unless he does that again.

Adam,
Did you take that photo in our yard? I would love
a copy of it! It’s beautiful.
Mom

Patrick on Jan 4th 05

Yeah, he’s a dork. This only further cements that fact.

I honestly wouldn’t give him the publicity/traffic you are giving him. Give it to me instead. lol, j/k. Instead, if you’d like, report him to his host.

I agree with what Alastair said. Butchered is the perfect word because it is what he did. He butchered a great design.

You all are totaly nuts not!
Adam is being a passive agressive little wanker and refusing to talk the guy… he sent out on e-mail I guess to everyone on this comment list which I will repost here:

Adam- grow up and deal with stuff like a man not a boy

Wow, I don’t know what to say. Was hurt to see your most recent post on your site- was a but too personal in nature I guess. You say in your comments that you didn’t want to e-mail me yet you are ok with name calling and linking in a way that you know I will see. You just wanted to get out your frustration in some passiveagressive nonconfritational way? Kick the dog so to speak… not exactly the most adult way of handling things… (Also, ironically the archive header is one of the few things to survive from the site’s previous incarnation)

My site is a way for random people I know-friends, family, whatnot-to keep up with me and doesn’t seek a wider audience so I could have just exactly replicated your site and you would have never known-the only reason that you did know was because I did the right thing in providing you full credit.

If you want me to take it down then tell me and don’t post about it
If you don’t want me to take it down then don’t post about it

Yes, I did put a good amount of work into it- both in reverse constructing the photo section that you use but also in creating the books and blog sections, the new graphics as well as creating unique archiving. I know that that the design on your site is your baby though and if you had actually contacted me I could have worked towards moving the work I had done out of the design structure I copied for you.

Basically what it comes down to is that you cannot both be pissed at me for not taking down my adaptation of your site design and at the same time not ask me to take it down.

I have been completely accommodating on this and you have avoided every attempt at contact- grow up

Jeremiah on Jan 4th 05

What a tool. BTW, nice site, Adam.

echo on Jan 6th 05

I must correct myself. I think ‘Where The Creek Bends’ is my new favourite. Absolutely gorgeous.

Foster on Jan 10th 05

Umm… is it just me or does that other site look nothing like yours?
I rather like it though, a nice clean look- thanks for the link
oh wait sorry, was I supose to hate it and suck up like everyone else?
