No News is Good News… Except This News
The new design is super sleek, the three new articles are superb, and I am a substantially happier person now that ALA is back!
A huge congrats goes out to Zeldman and everyone else that took part in the redesign and redevelopment, including Fred Gates, whose paintings add a vibrant touch to the new design.

A Peek at the New ALA
Zeldman gave everyone a “big tease” today by giving a sneak peek at the new A List Apart design. Apparently one of the first mock-ups didn’t make the cut.
What’s with Zeldman and peachy-pinky tones lately, I don’t know, but I’m sure the new design is going to be a feast for the eyes. It’s coming soon, so hold tight!
New ALA Redesign Clue
About a month ago, I reported that Jeffrey Zeldman had subtly revealed that A List Apart was getting a make over.
Now, exactly twenty-four days later, Zeldman has revealed another clue. This time it’s an image, accompanied by the dubious phrase, “Hey, you never know.” I tell you, that Jeffrey knows exactly how to keep people on their toes in anticipation!
About the graphic. I’m not sure I like it. It’s very similar to the third style of The Daily Report (original white), but maybe that’s what he was going for. Anyways, I guess I was just hoping for something drastically different, but I suppose it’s OK that he is staying true to his design style.
I’ll continue to watch for these dropped clues and hints about the ALA redesign, so stay tuned!
A List Apart Gets Makeover
Jeffrey Zeldman subtly revealed the news in yesterday’s Daily Report:
“Many have asked when ALA will provide an RSS feed. It will do so as soon as we finish redesigning the site. The old design is tired and unattractive, and less usable than it ought to be, in part because the old architecture points to the wrong things and does not point to the right things. All of this will be fixed soon.”
I’d have to say that I agree with him. A List Apart’s once state-of-the-art, handsome CSS layout and design no longer intrigues me. The top-notch content deserves better in this day and age. I hope that it’s a complete make over, and not just a few changes, because I’m quite excited to see what the designers will come up with next.
Speaking of A List Apart, give its new article, “Unlocking Hidden Navigation Access Keys,” a read. It’s an interesting and, perhaps, underused feature that I’m thinking of adding to the site. We’ll see.
